As this month comes to an end it is time for another Animation Company Update! Was always, it has been a busy month, so I will keep this post short.
We have been making great progress with the short, but the crew has been busy with the holidays. This is a busy time a year for everyone, and there has also been bugs going around. We are trying to all stay healthy, and as productive as we can. Things will hopefully start to pick up again in January.
Is it really almost November? This year has been flying by, and will be over before we know it. I guess that is what happens when you are having fun? This year has been a very busy year with running the business. I feel that I’m learning new things everyday, and there is always challenges to overcome. To me the challenges are part of the appeal of running my own company. There is no roadmap that will work for every company, and it requires you to constantly readjusting your strategy. Below is a quick update on some of the things I have been working on lately.
Is it really October already? Wow this year is flying by. I’m already starting to see Christmas advertisements online and in my email inbox. I have not been doing the best job at posting every week. It is challenging to find the time to think, let alone write a post for my blog. I will do my best to keep posting, so I thought I give you all a quick update on what is going on.
I wanted to give a short update on our short to let you all know where we are with it. It is what I spend most of my time on, so I don’t have much else to talk about.
In order to discuss our progress lets break it down into two areas, asset creation and shot creation.
For the 1st short there are 3 main assets, the creature, the mechanical arm/hand, and the testing room or environment.
This last week I have been mostly working on our animated short. Animation is a slow process, but we are making some great progress. It might be a month, but I do plan to get some fun concept art to share with all of you.
I have also been working on a bid for a potential client that will require a mix of a CG character in a CG environment, with a live action actor. I’m collaborating with some other companies to do the live action, and sound, since those aren’t services we offer. I will find out later this year if the project was awarded to us.
I wanted to give everyone a June Update on everything I’m working on with the company. Although I don’t currently have any client projects I’m working on I’m still pretty busy with many other tasks. Here are some of the things I’m currently working on.
I mentioned in an earlier post I was working on a CG animated short. We are making progress with it, but have been taking our time to make sure it looks great. As I write this we are working on the design of the main character, as well as brainstorming the set location. To keep costs down it will be in one simple set that we can reuse for the different episodes. Once we finish the character design phase we will start modeling the character, and then rig it for animation. At the same time we work on the character rig we will also be surfacing it.
My parents were in town this week, so I did not have time to write a full blog post, so this will be quick update.
The Toys”R”Us project we have been working on has finally come to an end(for the most part). Not all 15 commercials are posted yet, but if you missed any of them you can watch them all here.
This project started the week after I left DreamWorks Animation in July, and went on for about 2 1/2 months. It could not have come at a more perfect time for me, and gave me a great head start for the company. It was a great experience, and had a lot of fun working on them.
